Jim Driscoll, aka “Peerless Jim,” a renowned boxer from Wales, had an incredible life. Born in a poor area of Cardiff on December 15, 1880, he began boxing to protect himself, and quickly gained a reputation as an adept fighter. After turning pro in 1901, he became one of Britain’s premier featherweights. His impressive record of 56 wins, 4 losses, and 6 draws (37 of them by knockout) is due to his remarkable hand speed, footwork, and evasive quality. In 1910, Driscoll faced American featherweight champion Abe Attell in a 20-round bout in San Francisco, unfortunately losing by decision. However, his performance was widely praised and he was considered one of the world’s best featherweights.
Driscoll passed away in 1925, leaving behind a legacy as one of boxing’s top featherweights. He also authored several books, and if you can get your hands on any of them, consider yourself fortunate.
